5 Summer Reads -- the reviews

If you are like me, you never leave the house without a book in tow. Over the summer, I have read a wide variety of books and I want to share the books I read this summer. The books in this list I did finish reading. A few of these books were read on my kindle because I have done a lot of traveling and I didn't want to bring a full paperback with me through the airport.

The first book I read to start June off was Sunset Thunder by Shannyn Leah.

I gave this book 2/5 stars.

This book follows our leading lady as she plans the wedding of her now ex-husband and starts a relationship with his best friend. The reason this book ranked so low with me is that it felt very predictable and like every other "love story". This book had the potential to be good, but unfortunately, it fell into the romance tropes we all know and sometimes love.

The second book I read this summer was The Almost Sisters by Joshilyn Jackson

I gave this book 3/5 stars

This book is one of my favorite reads this summer thus far! I thought I knew how this book was going to end and yet I was surprised. I have a bad habit of analyzing everything I read and I can pretty much figure out a book within the first few pages. This book, however, was not so cut and dry as I thought it would be. When Leia goes to Alabama to check on her grandmother, no one could prepare you for what happens next. Murder, mystery baby daddy, and our beloved South really shine in this book!

The third book I read was In Between by Jenny B Jones.

I gave this book 3/5 stars

Katie Parker is caught in between wanting to be the good kid her adoptive parents know she can be and the bad girl she thinks she is. This book is a lovely coming of age book for tweens who are wanting to be treated like an adult but still acting like children. I must say, for the kind of book this was, I enjoyed it more than I thought that I would.

The fourth book I read was Ashlynn Ella's Story by Shannon Hale

I gave this short read a 2/5 stars

While this short story is supposed to go along with a series, I did not love it. There was no real plot or character arc. This short story also did nothing to make me want to read the series it comes from or anything else from the author. It may be because I am an adult and read a children's short story, but I was not impressed.

The fifth and final book I read was Finding Cinderella by Colleen Hoover.

I gave this book 3/5 stars.

This book was interesting but overall predictable. I have noticed that when I read things that are in the YA genre, they seem to be really predictable and they do not have much of a plot. The characters do not really evolve in this book even though time continues to pass. I did give this book a high ranking of 3 stars because it was entertaining to read and it did help me get out of my reading slump.

What you guys should know is that I rarely give a book anything higher than 4 stars. The reason is that I have high standards for what a book should do and if the book does not reach those standards it will not rank too high. Also, if you have read any of these books and want to talk about them please email me! I am always excited to talk about books with anyone.

A little herbalism, a little bookish content, and a whole lot of fun!
